EFM - Electronic Fetal Monitoring

EFM-interpretation for Obstetricians and Midwives

EFM - Electronic Fetal Monitoring - has been used for 30 years to help monitor the fetus during delivery.

EFM should be used during deliveries where there is an increased risk of the fetus suffering from a lack of oxygen, but there is no evidence that EFM improves the outcome of a normal birth. When evaluating EFM, you should always use include your clinical examination and your common sense.

At Skejby Sygehus, it has been decided to supplement existing teaching on EFM interpretation with an e-learning program. The e-program is based on a number of birth-related cases.

Users will – based on mother’s history and EFM traces – analyse and make decisions regarding the continued course of the delivery. This is done in the form of questions and a response to the selected answer explaining whether it is correct or incorrect.

The course also includes tests, clarifying example material for EFM interpretation, the maternity ward’s obstetric guidelines, etc.
